Bonaire is an island in the Caribbean that used to know a form of self-government after the colonial period. In 2010 it became under Dutch rule again. But of course, these are only political steps, not really cultural movements. The African and Dutch descendants have always been distant with each other. Visual artist Frouwkje Smit visited Bonaire and made an art film, in which this piano attracts all kinds of people on the streets. In this lively photo-book, she and the pianist explain (in Dutch) the meaning of their project to one of the main radio broadcasters on the island…
